失われていく「日本文化」
伝統文化である「畳」。しかし、それが昨今の暮らしの中で消えつつあるのはご存じでしょうか？
畳店は最盛期の10分の1ともいわれ、日本人の畳離れは深刻な問題となっています。
幼いころから当たり前のように存在した「畳」。
特に若者世代は畳離れが進み、和室は必要がないとの考えから、若い夫婦の家から畳の部屋は消えています。
私たちは、新たな畳の見せ方や使い方を提案し、イ草の機能的な面などまだまだ知られていないすばらしさをお伝えしていきたいと考えています。畳店であることの前提として、日本人として、常に新しいことに挑戦していくことで、畳離れにブレーキをかけることができればと日々模索しております。
Now,tatami,which is Japanese tradition is disappering.
The number of tatami store is one-tenth of what it were ninety years ago , when tatami were most populer.
That's why we are suggesting the new ways of using tatami or functional,aspect of soft rush that everybody don't know yet.
To do that, we hope that everyone realize again the splendor of tatami.

父の背中を見て畳の道へ…。
本場京都に。
京都での4年間の修行は、日本の「ものづくり」のすばらしさや、匠の技に心を奪われ、畳に情熱を注ぐ日々を送っておりました。
寝る間も惜しんで努力をした日々のおかげか、技能大会では毎年優勝をいただき、誰も寄せつけないほどの技術を身につけて熊本に帰ってきました。
熊本に帰ってきてからは、先代の父より「仕事への心構え」として、仕事は日々努力の積み重ねであることや、経営の厳しさも教えてもらいながら、2代目として湯前畳店を受け継ぎました。
今は二級建築士も取得し、リフォームや増築などお客様の幅広いご要望にお応えしております。
いろいろな技術を集結し、時代に合わせ形を変えながら前へ…。自分と共に頑張ってくれるスタッフが私の宝です。
“Took over the father's business and went to Kyoto”
I went to Kyoto to train my skill of making tatami.
Thanks to the hard training , I took the first prize at the skill competition every year.
Finally, I mastered by far the best skill and come back to Kumamoto.
After that, I learned the attifude toword the work and how managing is difficult.
Now, I also took the licence of second class registered architect and trying to meet various kinds of needs.
And, staff who work with me very hard are also precious to me.

熊本城・本丸御殿の復元工事
日本三大名城の1つ、熊本城。
築城400年にあたる平成19年に130年のときを越えて、江戸時代初期に建築された本丸御殿を当時の工法そのままに、9年の歳月と総工費54億円をかけ復元されました。
その復元工事に、湯前畳店は本丸御殿への畳の搬入を担当させていただきました。とても名誉ある仕事で身が引き締まる思いだったことを今でも覚えています。
畳を搬入し敷合わせをする際、九条紋の柄合わせが少しのズレもなく「ピタッ！」と合ったときは、京都での厳しかった修行の有難さを肌で感じた瞬間でした。
“Kumamoto Castle restoration.”
Kumamoto Castle is one of the three great castles in Japan.
It was built by Kiyomasa Kato and has 400 years of history.
Thankfully, we entrusted the restoration of Kumamoto Castle.
We made and laid the special tatami.
That was a great honor fo we and felt motivated.
